Weekly Spiritual Checkup Feb. 28, 2016
Do your thoughts tend to wander?
Is your mind all over the place?
Do you seem unable to focus or trust in the Lord?
Are you unable to conquer anger, bitterness, fears, depression, or an unforgiving spirit?
Few things are as powerful or as helpful as a rigorous, disciplined study of God’s Word. Forget short cuts and stop chasing a “good feeling”; pick a book of the bible and dive in. Read it over and over again; ask yourself questions about the passage until you really begin to understand it.Consult a commentary to go deeper in your studies; try committing portions of the passage to memory. Persevere in your studies, day after day, regardless of how you may feel, and eventually the Lord will lead you into green pastures. Besides taking your mind off your problems, the rigorous study of God’s Word will force you to begin thinking biblically, which is often the most important step to enjoying your walk with Him.
My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. (Proverbs 4:20-22 ESV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105 ESV)
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Psalm 119:103 ESV)
