As we seek to lead the Christian life, sometimes we neglect the important step of confession. Confession is the act by which we “come clean” before the Lord by acknowledging to Him and to ourselves that we have sinned in our thoughts, words, and actions. As we confess our sins, we also want to repent of them, which means that by God’s grace we hate our sins, we turn away from them, and with God’s help will continue to strive to overcome them in our life. We do this by turning in faith to Christ, Who alone can forgive us and grant us grace and strength to increasingly say “no” to sin and “yes” to righteousness. As we conclude 2014 together, let us confess our sins before the Lord, repent of them, and leave them at the foot of the cross as we seek to lead a new life by grace through faith.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”   (1 John 1:9 ESV)
